Vikings likely to take wait-and-see approach on Jared Allen

11:10 AM ET 05.26 | Best bet is that the Vikings don't extend the contract of Jared Allen, who can become a unrestricted free agent after the season, until they see how the pass rusher performs in his 10th NFL season. Allen, 31, is under contract for $14.3 million this year. Dwight Freeney, 33, who was a marquee pass rusher for 11 seasons with Indianapolis, found there was a small market for his services, recently signing with a two-year deal for $8.75 million excluding incentives with San Diego. It's not going to happen, but if the Vikings were to release Allen before training camp, he would be signed by some team, but not for anything near $14.3 million. The Vikings also have pass rushers Brian Robison, 30, and Everson Griffen, 25, and cornerback Chris Cook, 26, to consider for contract extensions.

Vikings wait-and-see him sign somewhere else next year. Idiots.

Mullets are OK down here, Jared.

Just sayin'

The vikings gave him that $70 million contract. They wrote it for $14 million this year and moved cap money around so it is a $17 million hit this year. He has received all of the guaranteed money. I say good for him that he will not take a pay cut. Your move. cut him or live with the deal you wrote up.

But not okay with his wife. And JJ would have him playing cornerback anyway Otis.

The Vikings have no intention of cutting him. He's worth every penny and they know it. If he has a good season again this year, and he will, they will make an attempt to resign him after the season. Allen is right to not restructure this year. He'll play hard and get one more decent payday.

Like Freeney - there seems to be a more organized collusion going on with the owners, I wouldn't be surprised to see JA have to hang out waiting until after the draft then take an incentive based contract.
