Greg Schiano said Wednesday that he did not get every high school player he wanted from the so-called State of Rutgers, the expanding region that now includes New Jersey, New York City, Staten Island and Long Island. After he announced that 20 players had signed letters of intent for Rutgers, Schiano said he figured he missed out on eight others from that area. But he said there was a time when that number might have been 18, or even 28.

New Jersey kids won't stay home so he has to expand. Makes sense too me.

As more and more Jersey kids stay home and choose Rutgers, the program will continue to get better while at the same time less kids from New Jersey will be going to the Penn States, BC's, and UConn's. This strengthens Rutgers while weakens the other teams.

Expansion = possible run at the Big East title.

Yeah man it ticks me off Rutgers, UCF, USF, FIA, FAU, and UConn are taking my players away from Syracuse. We used to be loaded with kids from NJ, PA, and Fl now we barely get a nod from any kids SU's program has hit the crapper since they let Pasqualoni go.

Keep 'em min state, win a title. NJ = Football hotbed.

Rutgers and title is an oxymoron. You know that, right?

February 7, 2008  06:56 PM ET

They still didn't keep 8 of the top 10 prospects in the state & 15 of the top 20. They are just bringing in the bottom feeders in the state.

2 of the top 10 in New York. Going for quantity over quality isn't a good thing.

Rutgers continues to improve as a program. Give them a few more years, and they will have to be taken seriously every year. No more big schools coming to Piscataway expecting an easy win. And its great, because success in one program leads to more success. It started in NCAAW with Rutgers having solid seasons for a few years, then in the past 2 years NCAA football has become stronger. I wonder what next will improve...

Note - the State of NJ MUST STOP cutting thier funding for them to continue to improve. Governor Corzine is an a$$.

New York City AND Staten Island? Umm, Staten Island is part of New York City. No wonder they keep discussing secession. The Times doesn't even acknowledge them.
