USC beats FSU to DB recruit

USC made a big splash early in the day when defensive lineman Nick Perry of King High in Detroit and defensive back T.J. Bryant of Tallahassee Lincoln High in Florida announced they would attend USC. "Bryant was a shocker," said Greg Biggins, director of recruiting for StudentSportsFootball.com. "No one goes into Tallahassee Lincoln and gets him because it's a pipeline to Florida State." Perry's and Bryant's announcements tempered the loss of multiple-purpose standout Joe Adams, who backed off his oral commitment and signed with Arkansas, his home state school.

Man I've tried to move past this, so I come to fannation and of course they have a story about it!

Livin the dream!

Okay pete..you can spit now

Being from Tallahassee, I can say this; when you grow up in a college town, you either love it and become a part of the tradition, or you want to get the hell out.
Would've loved to keep TJ, but I wish him luck at USC.

That is a shocker. These kids stay home, and the fact that he left T-Town for LA is just a credit to Pete Carroll and USC.

you could crack a walnut on that steely jaw

February 7, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Kills me when i see a kid who could have stayed in his home state and play for any of the teams yet want to go to Cali and possibly have to fight for a spot on the team against a dozen others going for the same position and who knows when one can get hurt or be off the day to be picked This kid had a coice at FSU stay home so mom and dad can see him play all the time yet goes to cali and mom and dad now got to watch him on tv ohh wait i;m sure they got there tickets to fly and game passes already from some booster 5 minutes after he signed on the dotted line. This kids had he no gone to FSU could have played at FIU, FAU, UCF, or USF and started with no questions asked

Having lived in Tally for several years, I can attest to this phenomenon. Tal-Lincoln is a powerhouse in HS football with plenty of talent for the Noles to harvest, but some of the good ones are bound to get away sometime. We'll be O.K., and hopefully this kid will be too.

February 7, 2008  11:25 AM ET

It's sorta like recruiting in Miami. Although Miami just has a SICK amount of HS talent, the Canes can't land 'em all.

Pete Carroll put on the late, great James Brown's "The Big Payback" when news of this signing was official. Revenge for Lorenzo Booker.

February 7, 2008  11:41 AM ET

yeah well sometimes you need a change of scene.....

Oooooo, good point! I hadn't thought of it like that.

February 7, 2008  12:54 PM ET

yeah he probably didn't want to have to share rushes with the "great" E.J. Manuel. The tapes i've seen of him are sick.

February 7, 2008  01:47 PM ET

He came to USC for one reason he knows that he will have the chance to compete and play as a freshman. Other teams might say that but USC proves it year in and year out.

February 7, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Losing out on Julio is a much bigger disappointment than this guy. We haven't had a big time receiver since Anquan.

February 7, 2008  03:13 PM ET

My wife went to FSU and I went to USC, so after my heckling earer today, I may be sleeping in the guest room tonight.

February 7, 2008  03:37 PM ET

cusefan - actually the biggest draw for this kid was his chance to play early at SC. we lost one corner to graduation, one to academic DQ, and one who left the team to focus on getting into law school. he is a great pick up and if he's as good as advertised (which i hope he is) we will see the field as a freshman.
Fight On!

USC back to BCS for another Great football season!

They didn't beat FSU. He was coming to Bama before deciding to take the Reggie Bush $650,000.00 dream.
