07:06 AM ET 05.28 | Is Geno Smith's hiring Roc Nation Sports working against the public perception of him? Considering the recent dings to his reputation, he should stay away from flashy. He should take the Mark Sanchez approach. After being drafted fifth overall in 2009, Sanchez and his reps decided to lay low for a year, turning down endorsement opportunities. Maybe Roc Nation will take a conservative approach with Smith; we'll see. He has a tremendous opportunity with the Jets. He should to pick it up in the classroom and worry about One Jets Drive. ... Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg told me that Sanchez's "completion percentage and accuracy percentage have been sky high up to date." (In Mornhinweg's grading system, he considers them separate categories.)

Honestly, no one cares about Mark Sanchez' trials. Even Sanchez is annoyed by these articles.

He's gone in a few weeks most likely anyway. I doubt he'll catch on with another team.

Wow, a Jets thread. Quite a surprise by the interns, don''t you think?

What is it, 4 more days until they will release Sanchez if they're going to do it?

If they release him they've got to pay him a pile of dough and nobody is going to trade for him. He's a Jet at least another year.

But they will have to pay even more dough if they keep him Bottom line is if he isn't the future.....why retain him?June 1...

It's kind of damned if you do and damned if you don't. So after releasing Sanchez, Geno Smith is the guy????

May 28, 2013  08:38 AM ET

It looks to be an entertaining year in NY ,...again.

No, after releasing Sanchez, Geno Smith isn't the guy, as they will discover. This year, even Buffalo might not be enough to keep the Jets out of last place.

May 28, 2013  08:56 AM ET

Here's a Faustian bargain for you - suppose they renegotiate Sanchez's contract to be more in line with his skill set? For Sanchez, he gets to play, albeit at a lower salary, and for the Jets they get to keep him while they find out if Geno Smith can do the job.

If they throw Smith in their on opening day, he's toast. Half a season with the clipboard would give him a chance, if he's ever going to be a starter in this league.

He should take the Mark Sanchez approach.

At first this sounds like horrible advice, but then I thought, what player wouldn't want to be overpaid and associated with the definition of insanity?

Trick is, you need a clueless owner and an arrogant coach to pull it off.

...so what's the incentive for him re-negotiating?

In terms of money, none. But if he wants another year in the spotlight, this would be his best chance. Otherwise, he'll be greeting clients at a high-end real estate place, or sitting around the pool wondering where all the babes went.

Well if Marty can't fix him then nobody can (snort sniker snort)

May 28, 2013  09:52 AM ET

Bet Sanchez wishes he'd taken those endorsement deals when they were being offered. Who will want him peddling their stuff now? Preparation H?

And then four weeks of threads of why he was released....and then ten weeks of threads about all the back stabbing gossip....
