07:09 AM ET 05.28 | The Bobcats became the latest team to hire a new head coach over the holiday weekend, tabbing Lakers assistant Steve Clifford. Clifford replaces Mike Dunlap, who was fired after one season as coach. Charlotte went 21-61 in 2012-'13. The Lakers assistant was a finalist for the Milwaukee Bucks head coaching job too, and Charlotte made a pre-emptive move to offer Clifford the job before he traveled to Milwaukee on Tuesday for a second interview. He is expected to try to hire Patrick Ewing as one of his top assistant coaches, reuniting Ewing with his close friend, Bobcats owner Michael Jordan. Clifford has had stops in New York, Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles as an NBA assistant coach.

Wow! Good luck w/ next season. You think hiring an assistant coach from the Lakers will help Chatlotte? And now complicating it by hiring Ewing. Great job MJ.

The best move for Charlotte, is to have Jordan sell his percentage of the team!!!!!

It was all in the name. Now that this team's got back its original name, they're gonna be in playoffs. F the coaches, it's just the name.

I really wonder why nobody gives Ewing his first HC gig. He's been a coach for a while. He spent years in Orlando as an assistant.

Ewing is not loved by the players and is too picky w/ job openings. Why wasn't he putting his name in any of the coach openings?

Good to see more new blood in the coaching ranks.

I have the same question that a few other people here have had; why hasn't Ewing gotten a head coaching shot? He's put in the time. Then again, he might not want the Charlotte job as long as MJ is calling the shots

Ric Bucher has said that Ewing lacks the attention-to-detail that other head coaches seem to exude during their interview. That being said, most hall-of-fame players make bad coaches any way.

What's it going to take for Kareem Abdul Jabbar to get a head coaching job in the NBA. The league has gone from recycled head coaches now to hiring assistant coaches as head coaches. Give Kareem a chance Clippers somebody.
