05:56 PM ET 05.28 | It's one of our more persistent offseason storylines in 2013: JaMarcus Russell continues to lose weight as NFL teams continue to eye the progress with skepticism. The latest report comes from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, who passes along word Russell is down 50 pounds to 265 pounds. That should help to satisfy NFL teams that reportedly wanted Russell to drop more pounds. Russell's work to get back in shape and return to the NFL is laudable, but we still can't imagine any NFL team taking a shot at him.

I'd like to see JaMarcus have a second chance.

Ditto, I love it when players rise after hitting rock bottom. The problem is that the one team famous for getting the most out of reclamation projects is the team he's already burned bridges with.

He can't be any worse than Blaine Gabbert in Jacksonville.

He said the same thing when after he went through the line the first time at Old Country Buffet. That's how this whole thing got started.

You mean he was up to 315lbs? God damn.

I think those days are over for Oakland, regardless of the player.

Now, he needs to lose about 25 lbs from his fat head!

May 28, 2013  09:38 PM ET

I can't imagine any GM willing to put his reputation on the line by signing him. Okay.....there's Jerry.

I think personnel people would look at Vince Young before they'd send airfare for JaMarcus.

lost 50 Lbs? ....must have cut off his head, ....wasn't using it anyway

May 29, 2013  09:48 AM ET

Not really following this...so just because he now weighs 265 pounds all of the sudden he's going to miraculously become an able NFL quarterback?

Same problem as Russell, no head for the game.
