07:26 AM ET 05.29 | Morgan Rielly may be a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he's also a fan of Dallas Eakins and ready to see the coach join another NHL franchise -- possibly near his hometown. Rielly, the 19-year-old from West Vancouver, played 22 games for Eakins and the American League's Toronto Marlies after his own Moose Jaw Warriors failed to make the WHL playoffs. "I had a great experience with him," said Rielly, the Leafs' first pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft. "It seems to me he's prepared to be a coach at the next level." Eakins, of course, is a coaching candidate for the vacancy behind the Vancouver Canucks' bench, a fact confirmed by Leafs vice-president of hockey operations Dave Poulin.

Judging by the "we are all mature" comments coming from the Canucks players, rookies need not apply. I'm just sayin'.

"I had a great experience with him," said Rielly, the Leafs' first pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft.

Sounds like a date

Eakins must have listed the kid as a job reference.

I guess he's tired of Eakin out a living in the AHL.

Maybe he'll be the 2nd coming of Bill Laforge.

Remember Bill? Made the leap from coaching kids to the Canucks for 20 or so games before being given the gas by Harry Neale?

Had all kinds of catchy practice gimmicks. Team Pride, Team Desire, Team Hustle, etc. Players tuned him RIGHT out.....

I'd truly hate to be the guy moving into that situation. Praps Gillie should consoider the first female head-coach in the Nat Ho. Lots of good lady psychiatrists available.

I remember that one too. At least it was more palatable than one with Cloris Leachman.
