NASCAR, Smith eye NHRA
NHRA drivers and crews will spend part of the season wondering who is going to buy the series. HD Partners Acquisition Group was set to purchase the NHRA and its assets for $121 million, but the company's board voted down the deal last week, citing the uncertain economic climate. No one is sure when or if the series will be sold this season. Bruton Smith, head of Speedway Motorsports Inc. (which owns Texas Motor Speedway), had expressed an interest in buying the series. He is building a drag strip at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. NASCAR could be interested in the series and is looking in to it.

The NHRA might want to consider hara-kari if Smith gets too interested.

I hope Nascar don't get it, i kinda like NHRA, and they will most likely decide they need to build the cars and regulate the races .

He has the money and the backing and he also knows how to make money.
He also knows motor sports are money making operations.
Professional sports team owners have big salaries to pay but in this
game you pay the guys that do well that day and some get appearance money.

I think NHRA will be fine if Smith ends up owning it.
If NASCAR gets it NHRA is screwed.

I must agree with SithLord196, Nascar and the france family have found themselves doing nothing but damage to the very sport they claim to be trying to save. Now that nascar makes the bodies instaed of the manufactorer they are made in Mexico, so much for keeping it a U.S. sport. The only thing I think helped in the last few years is the Chase. The rest has done nothing but weaken the sport in my eyes. I was looking forward to watching the drag races this year in stead of nascar.

Scranton, you are right: that does look like Don Rickles, probably not as funny.
