03:56 PM ET 05.30 | The Big 12 is close to replacing the Cotton Bowl with the Alamo Bowl as the top non-BCS or playoff affiliated bowl game in their tie-ins. The Cotton Bowl will become one of the semifinal hosts when the College Football Playoff begins in 2014, which means it can no longer serve as the top bowl game for the conference. The conference is also reportedly close to swapping the Holiday Bowl for the Russell Athletic Bowl as one of its tie-ins, with the Gator Bowl also still a possibility.

HATE, HATE losing the Holiday Bowl.

no offense to LUS et al, but CA over FL anytime

Why did the conference drop from the Holiday Bowl? San Diego burn out?

May 30, 2013  04:51 PM ET

I'd think that the B12-2 would want Bowls on both coasts and smack-dab in the middle - full lower 48 coverage.

I hear WVU complained too far away, they want odds of FL over south Texas or San Diego.

Who can tire of San Diego? prob best bowl site there is.

There is the conference, now. If they do not want full lower 48 exposure, they should have considered that before making their decision. Them thar educators needs educatin'!

Only Holiday Bowl I remember was one when BYU played in a terrible fog. Since then haven't really watched that game...sort of seemed to me to be a lesser game for teams who couldn't make a better bowl.

The B12 3 and PAC 2 usually had great matchups. Generally the best bowl prior to Jan 1.
