Worst trade of the decade

07:10 AM ET 05.31 | Trade Jurickson Profar? Dang right, you trade Jurickson Profar. Find the right deal, make the deal and, with a kid this talented, pray that you get it right. ... Why? For the same reason Jon Daniels is now sitting on the worst MLB trade of this decade. Yes, the worst. Twenty-two months ago, facing the trading deadline of July, 2011, Daniels shipped off to Baltimore a then-failed first baseman named Chris Davis and a then so-so pitcher named Tommy Hunter. In return, the O's gave the Texas Rangers what was expected to be much needed bullpen help, right hander Koji Uehara. ... To get back to being a World Series team, another hitter is needed, another bullpen piece is definitely needed, but most of all, a top-shelf rotation guy is needed.

Hind sight is 20/20. Being an O's fan I love how that trade helped the O's. How about that Bedard trade that got the O's Jones and Tillman? Koji is great in the pen. I could see if he stunk it up for Texas but he didn't. You trade to get what you need to help your club. Does the Koji for Davis and Hunter trade look bad now? Yeah but Davis still only has about a full years worth of ABs

He's got 1,707 career ABs. 825 for Baltimore alone.

That's a big **** year's worth of ABs.

He must play in the Caribbean during the ML offseason.

Jimmy Rollins agrees with this statement.

Easy to say right now, as Davis is playing way over his head. How about a different trade the Rangers were involved in - trading Edinson Volquez and Danny Rey Herrera for Josh Hamilton? Don't you think it's far safer to call that trade the most lopsided of the decade?

OK, so I guess *THIS* decade means, "beginning in 2011" which would disqualify the Hamilton trade, huh?

Um... correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the Texas infield crowded and someone was eventually going to have to go? And wasn't the fact that Profar was on the horizon was another reason someone in the infield was going to have to go? And, does not the writer also specify that Davis was a then "failed" first baseman and that Hunter was a so-so pitcher? AND, does not this same writer say as a GM you should pull the truigger on a trade involving Profar and then "Pray that you get it right". AND, isn't that what the GM did with these two guys who as far as I am aware had nowhere near the upside of Profar?
So, if all this is true, then, what is the big whoop?
Up to this year Davis had two so-so years with Texas (2008 & 2009) and a decent year (2012) with the Orioles.
As far as Hutner goes until this year, when it appears he has found his niche as middle innings/set-up guy in the Orioles bullpen, he has had some so-so years as a starter.
Based on this history there is no way this can be called the worst trade of anything except maybe 2011.
Let's see what either, or both, of these players do for at least the next few years before we go labeling this in the worst category of anything.
I mean, so far, it ain't like is like it is on the "Fregosi for Ryan" or "Frank Robinson for pitcher Milt Pappas, pitcher Jack Baldschun and outfielder Dick Simpson" level. Yet......

where is PK when I need him. I think he might appreciate the following that I got in an email last night:

Medicare Part G

You're a sick senior citizen and the government says there
is no nursing home care available for you. So what do you do?
Our plan gives anyone 65 years, or older, a gun (G) and 4 bullets. You
are allowed to shoot four politicians.

Of course, this means you'll be sent to prison, where you will
receive three meals a day, a roof over your head,
central heating and air conditioning and all the health care
you need.

Need new teeth? No problem. Need glasses? That's great.
Need a new hip, knees, kidney, lungs or heart? They're all
covered.

As an added bonus, your kids can come and visit you at
least as often as they do now.

And who will be paying for all of this?
The same government that just told you they can't afford for you to
go into a home.

And, you can get rid of 4 useless politicians while you're at it.

Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any
income taxes anymore.

Is this a great country or what?
