07:15 AM ET 05.31 | As SEC Commissioner, Mike Slive has been on the receiving end of more than a few shots, be he's also heard contrition. [Slive] said he received apologies in advance from Ohio State President Gordon Gee and Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney for negative remarks about the conference made by Gee in December. The remarks were made at an athletic council meeting and became public recently after the Associated Press successfully filed a public records request. "You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing," Gee said, when asked how he would respond to SEC fans who say the Big Ten can't count because it now has 14 members. Slive said Gee called him a "week or so ago" to apologize for remarks that might be offensive.

What has not been reported is Slive's alleged comments about "EGG nog."

5+ months later is not what most folks would consider "timely", or at least I don't.

Nothing like bulletin board material. Way to go, EGG.

whatever. stupid comments but the over the top sensitivity about it is worse.

I agree. This outbreak of apologizing is getting ridiculous. Just acknowledge it was a dumb comment, get over it, and move on.

Joe, I apologize for all of my shortcomings.

Tinnie, it's too soon -- you're supposed to wait at least 5 months before you apologize.

SEC fans shouldn't be so sensitive. Gordon Gee is an equal opportunity jokester:

"The (Notre Dame) fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week ... You just can't trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that ..."

"... the (Ohio) governor's a damn dummy."

"(The Big Ten) make certain that we have institutions of like-minded academic integrity, so you won't see us adding Louisville ... (later Gee added that the Big Ten wouldn't add the University of Kentucky either).

"No one admires Jim Delany more than I do ... we need to make certain he keeps his hands out of our pockets ..."
