Isles interested in Luongo

07:23 AM ET 05.31 | No strangers to goaltenders with long and expensive contracts, the Islanders may be willing to add another. It's believed NYI would, under right circumstances, have interest in VAN G Roberto Luongo, tho 1st order of biz is to gauge cost on Nabokov. Nabokov is UFA. As for circumstances on Luongo, almost goes without saying it would mean VAN taking Rick DiPietro for compliance buyout. DiPietro's buyout is steep, $1.5M per year for next 16 years, not to be confused with Luongo's buyout #s: a shade over $1.5M x 18 years. No question in my mind Luongo is a good "hockey" fit for NYI but whether Isles or Canucks could ever finesse a workable deal is the issue. BTW, NYI are not "tolling" contract of G Tim Thomas.

No brainer for NYI. Luongo for RDP is a classic "bad contract" for "bad contract" trade. Only question is, what will NYI have to give up in return.

oh my....didn't they (more properly, Milbury?) draft this guy a hundred years ago?

They've learned nothing from the DiPietro saga

If they can swap RDP for Luongo's contract, I'm all for it. That's the only way this would make sense.

Actually, they are turning an AHL player into an NHL player if they make this happen.

I guess the 6 and 5 year cap friendly contracts they have for Moulson, Tavares and Grabner really show they've learned nothing.

Luongo's reply tweet to Big Dawg Mackenzie was priceless. Paraphrased "I will go to NYI only if Mike comes with me". And he attached a draft day photo of him and Milbury

Milbury almost buried this team and it's taken this long for them to recover, I only would like him back here if just to get him off the tv

Just like every sitcom needs the dumb but funny character it appears hockey panels also need a dumb character. This would be Milbury's role except he's not funny, he's just dumb.
