Dwight Freeney: NFL owners colluded this offseason

04:27 PM ET 05.31 | Defensive end Dwight Freeney agreed to a two-year contract with the San Diego Chargers in May, but believes the free agency process took longer than expected because NFL owners across the league made a hush-hush deal with each other to low-ball free agents this offseason, according to a report from Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com on Thursday. Freeney laid it out pretty simply in the report: "I basically think the owners got together and decided not to spend the cash on free agents. I definitely think that's part of it. I think the owners made a pact. There's only 32 of them and none of them broke ranks. I think they all decided not to spend money."

Or, there wasn't anyone worth spending money on.

I love washed up players complaining they aren't being paid at elite levels anymore.

Pretty certain Danny and Jerry would have spent money if they weren't in hock to the league, Dwight.

Whining by someone over the hill and in denial.

I think there is some validity in his comments. Sure, they come off as self serving, but this was the strangest off-season free agency market in history.

Ping!

Freeney's numbers have steadily declined the last three seasons.

He's 33 years old and only registered 5.0 sacks this year.

The only reason it took him Freeney so long to sign is because he has an overvalued sense of self-worth.

With his age and declining production, he'd be lucky to start on most teams.

It was also one of the weakest free agent markets in memory.

Who were the big name free agents of 2013? Anyone worth dropping a blank check on?

Ping? Seriously, Un?

I have come to expect more from you, my friend.

May 31, 2013  08:40 PM ET

Joking.

That's a very specific and disturbing threat.

I know. I haven't been able to walk right for months. In addition, my gardener has been looking at me askance ever since.

Anal rape by thatcher rake does not involve a swift death, as the human body contains a lot of blood.

Dah, a cap is an artificial limit on team spending. And if your team is the girls, who paid their worthless QB 100 million dollars, that don't leave much for remaining players.

America runs on the golden rule: Them that got the gold makes the rules, and the law is for poor people.

Yep. This comes across as sour grapes, and not much else. It rings a little hollow when a player at his age complains about this, and yet he was still able to get picked up by a team.
