08:38 AM ET 06.01 | A .246 average, .318 on-base percentage, .415 slugging mark, eight homers and 31 runs batted in entering June may be decent numbers for a middling major leaguer. Not for Albert Pujols. Not even close. The Angels first baseman, a three-time National League most valuable player in St. Louis, was not in Friday night's lineup, the second time in 55 games he hasn't started. Manager Mike Scioscia wanted to give Pujols, who has been bothered by plantar fasciitis in his left foot and a sore right knee, a night to recharge. Pujols said his discomfort Friday "was nothing out of the ordinary," another reminder that playing in pain has become the norm for the 33-year-old slugger. A weakened lower body has clearly taken a toll on Pujols, whose 2013 production is far below his career slash line of .325/.414/.608 and his 39-homer, 119-RBI averages. But the slugger refuses to blame his injuries.

This is going to get very old to Angels fans. Too bad that such a tremendous player will fade so quickly from the public eye. Should have signed 5 year deal and stayed in St. Louis. Boo birds will be forth coming

Good thing Arte has deep pockets.

And we didn't have to wait long to see how absurd that contract was.

He's going to need those deep pockets for the inevitable buy-out in 2-3 years.

He has to learn to enjoy what he is now, it most likely will not get better as he gets older. Not a bad player, just not a great one anymore.

Pujols really blew his STL legacy

Angels are in a hole for the next 8 years or so.

clearly,,,PUJOLS has aged but refused to admitted the reality,,plain and simple, should angels paid for their terrible mistakes in signing him to that ugly albastros contract????DEFENITIVELY!!!

alacran goes all esoteric on us.

lets do this thing the right way,,,why work so hard to figureout this pujols puzzle????
just send PUJOLS to the DL for two months and case close!!!!after all he needs either time to heal,or time to clear his tired mind!!!!

there is one thing in life,,that's called father time,,and never forgives and never forgets,,,

June 1, 2013  05:54 PM ET

The Cards were able to sign 50 and 4 long term by not signing their franchise away by letting 5 walk and with that pick from the Angels they got Michael Wacha.

when the time has come,,,,is better to turn off the switch,,unless the franchise still thinking there is a death hope,,,because is more easy to sign another player than,,to expect pujols resurrection in baseball sports,,,

June 1, 2013  06:01 PM ET

the angels had finded their new nemesis in the astros,,,,likely the houston would be getting the edge in the regular season series,,,

June 1, 2013  06:04 PM ET

as it is,,,,the angels offense is last, sure everybody will think otherwise but the results are -5 negative in the standings,,,,i would expect MIKE SCIOCIA gone by next season, why?? because he lacks in the game passion,he seems lose in every game, where is the agressivity from the old mike??i mean como'nwe need wins not cheap excuses,,,,

June 1, 2013  06:08 PM ET

if a team gets beat by a small payrroll team as it is the astros, where is your excuse? and if the team wins one game and then loses 5 games, where is your tough strategy??forgot the basics?forgot the discipline at the plate??players aren't motivated in either way, should the halos add some type of a fun show before the game start??it seems the players lack of motivation has to do with CERO rewards,,,,,,there is nothing else to think about it!!!!

June 1, 2013  06:12 PM ET

should sciocia bench his regular lineup?and just play with the bench and minor leaguers??
the halos are weak in their offense, when the pitcher pitch just a little better, the offense chose not to contribute at all, wqhen the pitchers pitch bad,the offense remains iddle,,should they get into a heavy fight to ignite this mediocrecy team??i mean the halos has everything to compete except,,,,,they lack in motivation!!

June 1, 2013  06:15 PM ET

when this team plays day games,,they can have betterr chances in winning the games,,but they love the night and all because of the attendance, who cares about the attendace when the team keeps playing like a single A team??
