07:13 AM ET 06.03 | For a club accustomed to waiting, this one will be over on Thursday. The Cubs are considering 4-5 players with the second overall pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, which runs Thursday-Saturday. Word has been that the Cubs will take one of two college pitchers -- Oklahoma's Jonathan Gray or Stanford's Mark Appel. Houston, which has the first pick, is likely to take one of them, with the Cubs presumably grabbing the other. "The names you've heard about, they have put themselves in position to be considerations up there," said Jason McLeod. ... "We all know you need dominant starting pitching to hopefully get to where we want to be and get into the postseason. At the same time, you don't want to pigeonhole yourself."

Doesn't matter who the take, they're the Cubs. They'll always suck.

Or the next Kerry Wood?

Or the next Greg Maddux -- great pitcher whose career skyrockets after leaving the Cubs.

You have to think that Theo will make the right choice. After all, he signed Ian Stewart to a $2 million contract to play at Triple A Iowa, Edwin Jackson for $52 million over 5 years and is now 1-8 with a 6.29 ERA, Scott Baker for $5.5 million now on the disabled list, Kyuji Fujikawa signed for 2 years for $9.5 million also on the DL getting Tommy John surgery, Carlos Villanueva 2 years for $10 million and an 0-3 record, and Nate Shierholz 1 year at 2.25 million to hit .287 as a corner outfielder. He's a genius!

Theo and the Cubs are plaing as good a ball as the Brewers - who have vastly more talent.

Only because the Cubbies' pitchers picked up the slack for their hitters during a recent five game winning streak with gale like winds blowing out.
