07:24 AM ET 06.03 | While the NHL's players are coming down the playoff stretch of a lockout season, it is a self-imposed absence that may be lifted after all these months. Former Boston Bruins netminder Tim Thomas could be considering a return to hockey next season, according to Hockey Night in Canada. Although the 39-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of this season, the New York Islanders, who traded for Thomas' rights before the 2012-13 season, can extend the four-time all-star for an additional year if they wish because he refused to report after the deal. But according to HNIC, Thomas could look to Europe, where he had early success prior to his NHL career while playing in Finland.

I think that owing to his age, the Islanders should let him go...unless he is willing to work on almost only incentives. 39, and out of NHL hockey for this long would make it hard to bounce back. And of course, with Luong and possibly MAF available.....

Rumors are that he finished all his dooms day rations in his bunker and is now 40 pounds heavier. No teams would want that dough boy

I don't know how these rumours get started.

If he wants to play, it is probably the best option for him.

plenty of far right nutjobs in russia, czech, slovakia...he should find plenty of support out there.

Sweden would be a perfect fit.

Yep. And, the Isles, as good as they are getting, don't have the defense the Bruins had in front of him.

The Islanders should give him a shot at the starting job if he is truly serious about getting in shape and playing again. He could be the best goalie they've had in a loooong time.

and in a Luongo to the line up...welcome to Crazy Town.

I wonder how Mike Modano's engagement is going?

I guess he's sick of doomsday bunker life. His supply of cheetos has to be dangerously low.

This brings up an interesting question - as this thread is going nowhere. This is completely apolitical and not directed at anyone in particular - the question is if you had to go to a doomsday bunker, what would be an essential food item(s) to bring with you to make armegeddon at least a little bit enjoyable?

I would have cheesesteaks and soft pretzels at a minimum. If it's doomsday, I really don't care about my cholesterol or weight.
