Warner, Cards disagree over bonus

The agent for Kurt Warner would like the Cardinals to award a $500,000 bonus that Warner just missed statistically last season. But it doesn't look like he's going to get it. Warner's contract called for him to get a series of $500,000 bonuses, up to $1.5 million. He had four categories to reach, and he made two of them, good for $1 million. He just missed in the other two: finishing in the NFL's top 10 in passing yards and finishing with a passer rating of 90.0 (he ended up at 89.9)

...that is why the contract uses specific metrics. If it had said, "kinda sorta closeish to about 90," then Warner would have a point.

Hoping that the team won't pedantically stick to the letter of a contract is fine, but if it is a question of a half-million bucks you gotta expect the team to snort.

well THAT .1 had to hurt !

The Rating as an incentive I have no problem with.

Quarterbacks who include passing yardage in their incentives are nuts. It is too easily influenced by play calling or even game time.

I remember in school when i got an 89 as my final grade and wanted an "A". I got a B in the class. Get over it Warner.

i think he should view the game tapes, figure out what receiver dropped the most passes and ask him to give him the money....Or, just suck it up and go by the original agreement...This is nuts..

If this ends up being the only drama in the coming off-season, i'll be happy as h-e-l-l.

one less INT and he would've had it. Suck it up man, there's no rounding in Football!

Talk about just playing for money.

jj730, he's a jock. He grew up having a score of 49 rounded up to an A.

Nice one fifolo. I remember being in junior/senior english and listening to the starting running back struggle with reading. He was sounding out every word like a kindergartner. I just wanted to stand up and scream "It's the, t-h-e!!" He was a gamer though.

This ain't rocket science folks. If the contract agreement called for accomplishment in four categories, did he or did he not accomplish all four? This ain't addition either where you carry some number(s) over to the next column. SInce he didn't accomplish all four, he gets ZERO< NADA<NOTHING!

And let's face it. If Warner had raeched 90.1 in QB rating he is not calling the Cards and telling them to keep the 1/2 mil bonus. Works both ways. Now if Warner's agent has some evidence that the Cards purposely withheld Warner from any playing time for the purpose of preventing him from reaching goals, then that is different.

Benchmarks are benchmarks. They are arbitrary, but you have to draw the line somewhere. If Warner didn't reach the benchmark, he shouldn't get the BONUS. Maybe he should get benched back to Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Beginning in 1970, the year I graduated from HS, the AFL and NFL played as one league with two conferences. They meet in the SB to determine the champion.

What team(s) has won the most SBs since 1970? Vikings?

Bill Bidwell? Cheat a player out of money? Outrageous! What's next? Cutting a player to avoid paying a roster bonus and then re-signing him for the league minimum?

Bill Bidwell ought to send fruit baskets to Dan Snyder, Al Davis, Tom Benson and Mike Brown so he doesn't have to wear the title of "NFL's Worst Owner".
He ought to, but he won't. Fruit baskets cost money!!

A little class from Bidwell, isn't going to happen. A better agent for Warner could happen. Warner has always been a class act, Bidwell has always been a horses act. (oops mispelled that)
