Time to blame Big Ten's presidents

07:13 AM ET 06.04 | Between Rutgers, which won't join the Big Ten for another year, and Ohio State, last week was a tough one in the P.R. department of the conference. Ohio State's Gordon Gee keeps forgetting that he's not a nightclub comic auditioning for Letterman but actually one of the more preeminent political figures in his state. ... As long as the money keeps rolling in, the presidents don't really care. If you want to know why the NCAA is such a mess, blame the school presidents. After all, they comprise the NCAA. They set the legislative agenda as well as the moral tone. And as both [Robert Barchi] and Gee can attest, the university presidency doesn't enjoy the relative public anonymity it once did.

Why is Gee still there? Do you tOSU guys really like him that much?

Good Morning to you, Sir!

EGG has been a public relations nightmare for tOSU. The scuttlebutt that both Gene Smith and EGG threw the Vest under the bus to save their own skins won't go away. Other than that, I suppose he's done all right. You might want to hear from TZ Man, B-i-G, and 84 for a more-informed opinion, however.

But as the article has pointed out, O-6, college presidents/chancellors, especially in the bigger schools, have amassed influence and power over time that's 'way beyond what would normally have been their purview. That could be a good thing or bad, depending on how that power is wielded. In the case of EGG, it's just been ugly.

EGG is a great leader/ face man for B1G....put him on Letterman & watch the popularity of the conference soar.

Better yet...reality show w/ a Kardashian....B1G will over-take the SEC in mere weeks.

Gee is still there because peons don't get to fire presidents. DAM IT.
I use to think bow ties were kind of cool, until this mormon moron showed up on the scene.
Then I move south of Nashville and he comes down here to Vanderbilt. He takes the athletic dept. and combines it w/ student affairs or some kind of <hit like that. Then divorces his wife, cause she was smokin' weed in the mansion and promptly leaves again.

EGG and Gene Smith have stayed past their welcome IMHO.
Then again, I'm just an ol' poisonous nut, down here volunteering!

GO BUCKS!!!

I was on the fence about our new top hog....now, I know where I stand.

Got a "thug" for a HC that got out of town just before the sherriff got there. I'm afraid he might be Catholic, too!!!!

From espn.com: OSU's Gee to retire in wake of controversy.HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And there was no controversy, he simply stuck his foot firmly in his mouth. Glad he's finally gone.

I'm probably alone on this but i'm gonna miss him! I loved how he poked fun at ND and the SEC. What cracks me up is that the rest of the nation thinks the same thing about ND, they are "holy hell" to deal with. They won't join a conference for football because they want all of the TV money and won't share even a penny with anyone else. This is why Gee said that they were hell to deal, now poking fun at the SEC for academic standards, well, The Ohio State University isn't in the top 50 in the nation so they have no room to talk!

He's gone, just announced on SI Media.
Logical outcome; he's an unguided missile and no Board of Trustees could live with his outbursts.

LOL....

So it is bad to get all the money you can from a contract? You should, instead, join a conference and make less money so that others can get more?

smh

Some schools can make more going it alone, while most need others to make them bigger...

But, hey, let's spread the wealth and no one get much...perhaps some of the SEC or 12PAC money can go to Akron without having to play anyone.... LOL

The guy's a frickin' embarrassment. Terrible leader, joke of a man and the big ten should have his balls cut off.
