Eagles rooting for Foles or Barkley

07:01 AM ET 06.06 | Chip Kelly's decision, at least publicly, appears to be wide open between Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Matt Barkley. If Kelly and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman do have a rooting interest in the quarterback battle, I think it's with Foles or Barkley rather than Vick. Why? A couple of reasons. The first is fairly obvious: age. ... A more important reason why I think the Eagles are rooting for Foles or Barkley, though, has to do with money. ... Vick is scheduled to make $7.1 million this season, $3.5 million of which is guaranteed. That's not much by NFL quarterback standards. But he will be a free agent after the 2013 season. If he won the starting job and played well, his market value -- and salary-cap number -- would increase substantially.

So Eagles' management is rooting to pay Vick at least $3.5 mil to either sit the bench or suck so they can resign him to a lower contract next year. Good thing that is just wild speculation by the Daily News.

Sounds like this is something the Browns have perfected. All player salaries would go down with them.

Michael Vick is not the future. He gets hurt every year, so you really need a starter behind him. Why not just bite the bullet and decide whether it's Foles or Barkley going forward?

It's not like they're in a "window of opportunity is closing" situation, with one last chance to win the big one before the veterans leave. They were 4-12 last year.

Everybody knows how this will end. Vick will start, he will get hurt, they will replace him ( most likely Barkley, they knew Foles glass size from last year, Barkley is the one they need to measure) and that will be that. ). Kaepernick or whats his name scenario when Smith went down. That is how it is done. And regardless of play on the field Philly fans will be told his replacement did a lot of "good" things out there that just did not show up n the scoreboard.

Michael Vick = Coach Killer. Ask Dan Reeves, Jim Mora, and Andy Reid.

He may look like the best option in camp, but he isn't the best option for Philly.

If the Eagles are rooting for Foles or Barkley, they're barking up the wrong tree.

He is the future of sociopaths being allowed to walk among us ... and get paid lots and lots and lots and lots of money.

No excuses for the guy, but it was statutory, consensual and the check didn't bounce.

Doggone, you're right about that.

Take a 7th round pick if you have to. No way he's on this team past this year. Stupid to keep him. Then again, it was stupid to keep him last year.

But she did.

Um, I think the assumption is Vick would be let go after this year and they could be paying Foles or Barkley far less than they would be paying Vick if he were the starter...

I think the "bottom line" is, Vick will be the starting QB, but how long will he stay healthy???
