Fassel back as Skins front-runner

Jim Fassel is the front-runner to become the Redskins' next coach. Again. Seemingly on the cusp of being hired two weeks ago by owner Dan Snyder, Fassel re-emerged yesterday after Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's withdrawal from consideration to replace Joe Gibbs.

Oh good. He's the only one desperate enough to take a job where the coordinators are actually in place for him before he gets the job. Spagnuolo was smart to turn Snyder down.

But Fassel needs to be recycled to the landfill. Not a legit NFL team.

Yeah - my point. This used milk carton will be reincarnated as a square hula hoop......what?

February 8, 2008  07:59 AM ET

Yea why not.....Fassel ran the Giants into the ground. Why not sign him and pay him way too much to take your playoff team to the junkyard. Didnt he get fired as the Ravens O coordinator.....why would you want him coaching your team??

Exactly, Oso. There was NOT a point in firing at least Williams because if the issue was the fact that Williams wouldn't flow with the new head coach, then who knows what'll happen with Zorn and Blanche?

PITCHFORK SNYDER!

OOHHHH, nevermind. Thought you were calling me a ho...

No fan of Fassel, he did do well his first year with the Giants. Never had back to back winning seasons..He left a mess for Coughlin to clean up. He is a smart football guy though and players like him. Funny, he was called a quarterback guru because at one time he worked with Elway..Not sure how much of the credit should go to him though. He did not do much with Giants quarterbacks, had to sign Kerry Collins for his best success with the G men. The Redskins have a young, promising QB, I wonder how much that plays in to all of this?

Thats funny Redskins......I wouldnt do that so early in the day

February 8, 2008  08:17 AM ET

It would be less time consuming to list all the guys who haven't been interviewed/considered for this job.

Smart move, Spagnuolo.

How many people have been the "front-runner" for the Skins? I think Daniel Snyder is just sending his plane all around picking up people just to get the frequent flyer miles.

February 8, 2008  08:43 AM ET

Snyder is a joke. Only a desperate man would take a head coaching job where the coordinators were already in place. Not to mention how long coaches last in Washington since Snyder has been running things. Just when things were starting to look up he blows up the coaching staff to start all over again. I know Gibbs quit, but it would have been a much smoother transition to promote from within and keep the same system in place. This team will be a mess next year not even coming close to making the playoffs. Mark my words.

I'd rather stay as a coordinator on a Super Bowl winner, than take the head coaching position where the coordinators are already in place, so you don't get to pick your staff, and where the owner can't seem to keep a head coach for more than 2-3. The Giants are a much more stable and well run organization than the Redskins. He will have other opportunities at a head coaching position where he can pick his own staff.

Now, that is funny. Snyder is racking up trips to get frequent flyer miles on his own plane!

Danny got his start booking trips on private jets for college students during spring break. Maybe he's going old school trying to do what made him successful.
