07:20 AM ET 06.07 | Gus Malzahn is on the road again, his whirlwind Tiger Trek tour making a stop Thursday in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. [Malzahn] enjoyed a mini Tiger Walk with fans at the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport before hopping on a bus to speak to several hundred fans at the Marriott Shoals Hotel & Spa in Florence. ... When asked about the quarterback race, and whether he feels comfortable with the possibility of naming a newcomer (Nick Marshall, Jeremy Johnson or Jason Smith) the starter ahead of incumbents Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace in fall camp, Malzahn showed little hesitation. "I'm trying to keep an open mind," he said. "(Offensive coordinator Rhett) Lashlee is trying to keep an open mind of who gives us the best chance to win."

Pause for a moment to appreciate the Muscle Shoals Horns. Amen, and pass the R&B.

Yes, it's that way every morning it seems.

Damn, not even the lead off hitter this morning. Gotta get up early to be in front of Tinnie and 0-6.

As a native of the area, I second the Amen.

There's a new documentary about the music scene making the film festival rounds, and getting good reviews titled, aptly enough, "Muscle Shoals." If nothing else, look up the trailer for it.

But, back on topic, didn't Auburn play QB-by-committee last year? Throw in a new coach/system, and incumbancy means nothing.

Not so much by committee, Spiff. Frasier started the season, blew up, and was benched pretty much for the season. None of the QBs were recruited to run the pro style offense. But they were recruited by Malzahn when he was there in 2010/2011 to run his style of spread, run first offense. Most Auburn fans are thinking (and hoping) that Marshall comes in this summer, has a great preseason and lights it up this fall.

You helping Aubbie now Tin Man, wow?

My good Colonel, in the '60s, a group of young, caucasian horn players gained employment backing R&B stars in recording sessions. They were dubbed the "Muscle Shoals Horn Section" or the "Muscle Shoals Horns." When Detroiter, Aretha Franklin first acquiesced to go to Alabama to record with them, she was shocked to discover that white boys were making that signature sound. As time went on, membership diversified a la the early Memphis Stax studio. There was no prejudice inside the studios. It was all about the music, as is my post.

Is it because it's Friday and eveeryone's worn out from the work week? The SEC-haters are missing a great opportuntiy here. I saw it coming as soon as I read the headline. "Why Auburn Incumbant QBs Should Be Nervous." Rubber checks? Athletic Department bankrupt? So many (tired and cheap) missed opportunties.

Cam 2.0

Marshall isn't and will never be another Cam Newton. He doen't have the size or strength, for starters. If he can get his INT ration down, though, he could be pretty good.

Would you mind if a few in-conf fans tossed in a few zingers, just so you don't feel dissed...? I can oblige if so. ;-)
