07:24 AM ET 06.07 | To Russia, with love? Sergei Gonchar is finding out there is no place like home if he wants to make big money. The Senators' veteran defenceman has an offer to join Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League that sources told the Sun would pay him north of $7 million per season if he decides to accept the deal. The 39-year-old Gonchar, a unrestricted free agent on July 5 who earned $5.5 million with the Senators last season, is considering the offer. ... Gonchar's Kelowna-based agent J.P. Barry confirmed the talks during a telephone conversation with the Sun Thursday, but denied reports out of Russia anything was signed. He said Gonchar would still like to play in the NHL.

More like "Nobody is giving me $7M over here so off I go!"

The headline appears to be a little misleading. Not uncommon here.

If it's in rubles, his contract would be worth $233,000. Enough for a nice dacha, a Lada and some borscht.
