04:43 PM ET 06.07 | The Los Angeles Lakers' future is in the air going into free agency, hinging on what Dwight Howard decides to do once his contract expires. The Lakers have not used their one-time amnesty provision since the NBA's latest collective bargaining agreement, and general manager Mitch Kupchak recently clarified that they have not decided on whether they will use it this Summer but are aware they still have that tool at their disposal. The Lakers have over $70 million in guaranteed money going into 2013-2014 without considering Howard's potential maximum contract.

It's sad to see the Lakers losing in the first round.

Hate to say it, but they should amnesty Nash. He just can't play defense, and in the west you have to deal with Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Russ Westbrook, Mike Conley, Stef Curry, Mike Conley, and Ty Lawson. With Kobe, MWP, Pau, and maybe Dwight, you need to build a defensive identity. D'Antoni was a bad hire.

Indeed. It was heart breaking.

They need to amnesty Kobe... anything less than that doesn't make sense from a business and basketball perspective.

True, but all the old teams (like Boston) lose in the first round, at one time or another!!!!

The Lakers will have to rebuild.

I love it if they could, but only contracts signed before the new CBA are eligible. If Kobe has a set back with his rehab, or he is really slow to heal, I would hope they use it on him. But I would say Metta is the obvious candidate.

He isn't eligible for that, bro...

Ninja'd by PF83. I think Gasol if they keep DH. Not sure when the deadline is to use it.
