Rivers remains mum on coaching future

07:08 AM ET 06.10 | And, again, Boston waits. Doc Rivers reached out to the Globe for the first time since the Celtics' season concluded but would not offer any hints as to whether he will return to the team as coach in a text-message exchange Sunday evening. Rivers said he needed to "detox" after the season and apologized for being inaccessible to reporters. But he would not give any indication whether he will be back for a 10th season in Boston although Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told the Globe last month that Rivers planned to return. Rivers has not confirmed that and with the Celtics season having ended five weeks ago, speculation has grown that the beloved coach is seriously considering stepping down.

What does his mum have to do with him coaching?

Please come to S.A. we need you.

You look so sober when you coach. And somehow I know you wouldn't have ruined our G.O.A.T.s last six years of his career.

Notice how Doc doesn't play the 10th man in his rotation like he is the 5th.

As much as I would love to blame Pop for last night's beating. I can't.

At some point talent (Heat) is going to beat effort (Spurs) once talent starts making an effort.

The Heat are just too athletic.

And there it is! Everybody would predict this from you today and everybody is so right. At least your team won last night. You have good reasons to be cocky and arrogant today. Did you see your god's block on splitter midway to the 4th qtr? He said he had time to think about that block...

Congrats on your Heat team winning last night. It's a good thing your god lebron showed up in the 4th qtr...

Doc is probably not gonna coach this year. Next year will just get worse unless they bring in a young veteran star to help Rondo...

I think Miami will win a tight Game 3.

Parker and Duncan will play better, but so will Lebron.

Miami going with Miller over Battier has paid off too...with MM33 going 3-3 last night and 1-1 in Game 1 from 3pt land.

Can you really blame him for waiting to see what the team will look like. Why come back if they're going to be lottery team?

June 10, 2013  10:06 AM ET

Come To LA, Bro.

June 10, 2013  10:22 AM ET

I wouldn't blame him if he did....

Thanks for all you have done to date so far DOC...

Off season is supposed to be when the so-called GM is active and "doing stuff". The HC will pick it back up once the camp opens so until then Doc need not say a darn thing.

What is Ainge doing meanwhile? Let HIM do the talking.

Even though I detest todays Celtics, I like Doc. Doc, you will get antsy sitting on a couch...

I'm sure Pop has a game plan in place to reduce the open looks from downtown.

Doc should take a year off. He's probably only sticking around for Pierce and KG. Go get rejuvenated and then consider your options.

I'm sure his salary has more to do w/ his presence. Thug Garnett and the Truth are heading off into the sunset, the Celtics need to hit a home run during the draft to help replace them. Coaching is more attractive when there's plenty of talent to go around.
