Rangers to talk to Lindy Ruff about head coaching job

05:11 AM ET 06.11 | The New York Rangers have moved away from the John Tortorella era in the franchise's history and are looking to find a guy that has what it takes to coach a winning team but won't go overboard like the prior coach managed to do at times. While he's not a complete polar opposite of Tortorella, former Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff is a guy New York apparently thinks can take them to the next level and according to ESPN, they've secured permission to speak with him about becoming their next head coach. The Sabres fired Ruff back in February and he proved to be the first of a few head coaching dominos to fall before the season was over. Tortorella was a bit of a surprise firing given the success the Rangers have had under him but his motivation tools tended to be more heartless than the Rangers would have liked.

True story - about 3 years ago my middle Daughter was 13. It took me 10 minutes and a pile of internal giggles to explain to her that watching Entertainment Tonight was not the same as watching the news.

An hour probably wouldn't be enough... might as well use the other 50 for beer.

I think Lindy is your man. It's going to be Ruff at first but ... you'll get used to him.

I'd consider a good AHL head coach or a good NHL assistant before I'd consider recycling a coach that someone else has disposed of. But that's just me.

Lindy Ruff to NYR sounds a lot better then the other tidbit i read about Torts interviewing with the Canucks... if that's the case, then i feel real bad for Canucks fans.

agreed they could, but do they really need a coach that clearly loses the skills of his players once he has control of the team?!?

Probably would agree, but the NY media is rough compared to the milquetoast Vancouver squad.
