06:59 AM ET 06.12 | Willis McGahee may be back in Denver, but for how long? The worst-kept secret in town: Denver will give Montee Ball every chance to win the starting job at running back. You don't have to tell McGahee: A 31-year-old back with a hefty $2.5 million salary and a long history of injury is running on borrowed time. "For the last seven years, I've been written off. Getting too old. I love it, though," McGahee said Tuesday, when he reported to the team's mandatory minicamp after skipping voluntary practice sessions this spring. Just so Ball and everybody else knows, McGahee plans to start the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. "There's people out there that had their doubts. And my job is to prove them wrong," he said.

Youth will be served. But for someone who had a potential career ending injury in college, McGahee has had a great run in the pros. You could say he's been living on borrowed time since he entered the league.

I don't remember anyone saying he was too old when he was 24.

Yeah, but almost all running backs have that, "Best Before Age 30" tag.

Peyton's history shows he doesn't like to run an entourage at RB, he likes 1 guy who he trusts implicitly. Maybe Willis will be that guy, but not showing up until yesterday put him on sidelines to start.

They lost their chance for Tebow!!!

He hasn't been the same since Ryan Clark leveled him in the 2009 AFC championship game....

Cut Moreno and keep McGahee, I say. Unless that 2 million in cap space is just so super important, somehow.

Did he just drop something?

would love to see ball get the starting spot, im a buckeye fan and seeing that goaline stand to keep him from breaking the record in columbus was awesome, but watching a lot of big ten football.... the guy is tough as nails and will be a great rb in the pros, just wish he would have went to the 49ers
