Lincecum struggled to put away rookie pitcher

07:13 AM ET 06.12 | There was a day when the long lines and the anticipated pitches were for Tim Lincecum and not heralded rookie Gerrit Cole. [Cole] only struck out two, but he didn't go to a three-ball count until two outs in the sixth. ... Lincecum worked so many deep counts while throwing 102 pitches in 4 2/3 innings. He even had trouble putting away Cole, who was down 0-2 with the bases loaded in his first big league at-bat. Then Lincecum threw three pitches out of the strike zone to run it full. And then came a fastball that even a pitcher with zero at-bats could threaten to time. Lincecum was hard on himself. "I've got to take advantage of the fact it's the pitcher and be aggressive," he said. "I didn't do what I wanted to do. ... They weren't even challenging pitches."

Not for nothing but Lincecum has nothing to do with Cole's (or any other pitchers) pitching performance. Lincecum faces the pitcher roughly two or three times in any given game so unless that pitcher is getting on base in those appearances Lincecum is not "struggling to put away" the pitcher at all. Now, regarding the rest of the opposing team's offense the nhe was struggling against them in a very big way.

Lincecum has less confidence if he's not going after a pitcher with 0-2 count and bases loaded.

LET"S GO BUCS!!!

I don't know if they are going to let Cole stay in the Bigs, but the Pirate rotation is starting to get scary with the depth of pitching. I still can't put out of my mind, though that they have looked good early on the past two years, but folded like a cheap tent in the second half of the season.

Timmy boy should have taken that contract extension the Giants offered him a few years back. There will be no big free agent payout for him after this season.

There's something to be said for guaranteed money. It might not be the mega payout, but you know what they say, a bird in hand is better than a hand in a bush. Wait. That's not true.

Evan Longoria's rationale for the first contract extension he signed with the Rays was "Never pass up a chance to make your first fortune."

Pujols did the same thing. He then greatly resented the fact that he didn't get absolute top dollar by waiting until free agency.

You might want to check opposing pitcher's batting average against the Giants. It is atrocious...

Lincecum can't longer be a starter,,he does better job at the reliever mode,,,,

the angels won three games out of twelve,,,so far so good,,,,good pitching bad offense as simple as that!!!

not really,,what he needs is a new position,,a reliever position would give many options to the giants,,,,
