07:19 AM ET 06.12 | Going bowling may soon mean really going bowling. Because college football's Power Five conferences prefer to play each other in bowl games, the smaller conferences are exploring opportunities to create additional bowl games next season, sources said. As many as nine locations are under consideration to begin bowl games in 2014, according to sources: Miami, Orlando, Little Rock, Ark.; Boca Raton, Fla.; Montgomery, Ala.; Los Angeles; Ireland; Dubai and either Toronto or Nassau, Bahamas. Any new bowls created in 2014 would be for the smaller conferences: the American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt. An NCAA moratorium to add new bowls expires after the 2013 season.

Frankly, the idea of regular season CFB games at international locations has been championed by your truly for many a year. My suggestion that the B1G stage a season opener in Frankfurt was kicked around in an SI podcast. Mandel thinks the first international meeting of this kind will be on the Pacific rim, likely matching PAC teams or PAC vs OOC opponent.

When it's Navy vs ND in Ireland, it doesn't count.

Maybe that will bring forth our errant Domers. ;-)

In Dubai, they could actually match teams in a bowling tournament. Ten pin. Unless, of course, they've already developed a state of the art stadium for futbol, which could then be configured for CFB. That would be one heck of an air conditioning bill...

I vote Bahamas.

I attended a bowl game in Yokohama years ago. In a foreign based bowl, the locals are clueless as to what it is happening and even the americans at the game are disengaged.

Have fun but I won't travel that far. Well maybe the bahamas.

Sooooooooooo, you'd go to the Bahamas to watch Wyoming vs East Carolina?

...or just go to the Bahamas.

Either do that, or see football players dropping like flies in the Empty Quarter heat.

Get a translator. Tell him/her to pass on that it's sumo wrestling on a grand scale with a ball thrown in to represent territorial expansion. They'll get it.

For those crowing of how "bowl games are always a home game for the southern teams", I would like to respectfully point out the locations list shown in this article. Do you see Chicago? Milwaukee? Cleveland? Buffalo? Any locale within 600 miles of any of these?

No, you don't.

That's just what the NCAA bowl season needs, more lower tier bowl games for all the 6-6 bowl eligable teams that were left out. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bahamas... young women in sundresses, big hats, and big sunglasses... gin & bitterlemon in a tall glass packed with ice... a cricket match on the green oval...

Can I have a bourbon and coke or an old-fashioned instead of the gin and juice :) Everything else on the menu was just fine.
