03:59 PM ET 06.13 | Joe Dumars talked with Phil Jackson about hiring a head coach with the right basketball philosophy. He interviewed several former NBA players, including Rasheed Wallace, to determine the clout of the Detroit Pistons' candidates. The team's president kept coming back to Maurice Cheeks. Dumars liked that Cheeks was a people person and just as important, he appreciated that Cheeks could command respect in the huddle. So how will the new Pistons coach turn a down franchise around? ???This team, the positive part of coaching is ... to try to change a lot of thinking of young players,??? Cheeks said Thursday upon his introduction. ???That???s the positive part of being here with the Pistons organization, to change the young players??? mind-set. There???s no way, no how you can go in thinking about the (negative) things that happened before (to you). The things we have to do are positive.???

QUOTE(#1):

I've always felt that if you need a coach to motivate you, how good a player can you really be?if trying to win isn't enough motivation- then gtfohsure a coach can help you get better, smarter, etc.but motivate?that is the players job

Mo Cheeks is too nice of a man to be a HC. I've always thought of him as a great mentor, great tutor, and an assistant coach.

This is going to end soon, and end badly.

His "Positivity" should be squelched by the 5th game...

Reminds me of Jerry Manuel coaching the Mets... can't get more positive than Jerry.
