07:01 AM ET 06.14 | Kevin Sumlin had a bit of a laugh earlier this week when asked about a new recruiting pitch making the rounds among Texas A&M's rivals. "[The] recruiting pitch out there right now against us is, 'You can't play there, they've got good players. And their coach is going to the NFL.' I think it's funny either way." But about that last part concerning the NFL. ... On Wednesday, Sumlin said he'd already been given the chance to be a head coach in the NFL. "I don't have to say anything," Sumlin said in response to his name being associated with future pro jobs. "Everybody knows what I do (now). I've never coached in the NFL. I've had plenty of opportunities to do that, both as an assistant coach and even as a head coach."

It would be nice to see a new face as an NFL head coach, instead of the usual retreads.

Guy has a damn good shot at winning a National Championship next season... I'd love to see him do it.

If this is about the Rooney Rule, then there a plenty of NFL assistant coaches who have been over looked for years....

Bo Shemblechler was often criticized for usually not winning the last game of the season. One year he was reported to have been offered an NFL head coaching gig. He declined saying, "In the NFL, there is only one coach per year who wins the last game of the season."

It sounds to me like Sumlin has his feel firmly planted on Kyle field.

No, this is about the "winning rule" where a coach who has proven himself to coach winners is given a shot to bigger and better things. Sumlin has a pretty decent record of winning in unexpected places. Sorry you are looking at the color of his skin and not his record. Can't think of too many coaches right now that would be overlooked compared to him.. but maybe you can name some?

Dude - the Rooney Rule is ALL about skin color.

And as far as coaches being overlooked as opposed to Sumlin (who I am a big fan of), start with Lovie Smith and go from there.

Wait, does he hate Tebow? Has he weighed in on that?
