Mess would take fellow Rangers star with him

07:25 AM ET 06.14 | Alain Vigneault may well be the Rangers' clubhouse leader in the race to take over the club. That, of course, excludes the other leader in the clubhouse named Mark Messier. This is the state of the Rangers' search for a coach that paused yesterday following Vigneault's visit on Tuesday with general manager Glen Sather. ... Sources from the Boston area where Brian Leetch makes his home told The Post the Hall of Fame defenseman would likely join the Rangers' coaching staff as an assistant if Messier is hired. The Blueshirts would need to hire a technocrat with meaningful NHL coaching experience to complement Messier and Leetch should Sather opt to go in that direction, one that would seem a far riskier one than hiring Vigneault.

Like the Gretz rumour i wont believe this until it comes from the horses mouth. If Mess wants to be GM someday no way he risks failing as coach first.

Brian Leetch ... the Hall of Fame defenseman would likely join the Rangers' coaching staff as an assistant if Messier is hired.

The good-old-boys network is moving it's act from Edmonton to Broadway. All they need is to add Adam Graves, Esa Tikkanen to the coaching staff and you have .... Edmonton Oilers Part II .... especially with all that coaching experience! ;-)

You'd think they'd want less mess in NY.

As a Devil fan, I say hire them all.

Edmonton, New York, Colorado...How is it possible that suddenly the Leafs look like a well-run franchise?

Simple, Burke left.

You get rid of three great hockey minds (JFJ, BB and Rotten Ronnie) and you start winning? I don't get it!

1) Maybe leetch can help the power play? It's certainly the last time it was any good.
20 As long as it works out as well as it did last ime they were all together, I'm okay with it I guess. (trying to be optimistic here, sorry)

Add Richter to that list and I'm in. Those are the only Rangers I know. Not meaning I don't know any of the Rangers names, but meaning that was the last time the Rangers looked like a team.

June 14, 2013  10:32 AM ET

Do the Rangers need a coaching staff with little to no actual coaching experience? To paraphrase Nard - as a Flyers fan I heartily endorse this idea ;)

MSG's motto - 94 forever. Really forever.

Time again for one of my fave hockey jokes...

The Rangers are home off a very long road trip. The Great One is feeling frisky but when he gets home Janet informs him that Kari Takko is experiencing that time of the month.

Doesn't stop Wayner from wanting to go five hole and in the post coitus after haze, Janet pipes up...messy eh?

Gretz answers...no it's me Wayne!

Wow, that's the best menstrual joke I've heard...btw, that's not high praise. ;-)

Probably could tweak it a little by saying he gets back to the pad instead of gets home...

I'm not saying Jessica Simpson's dumb but she tried to trade in her menstrual cycle on a Honda.

When trying to come with a name for a new Japanese car the executive was told he only had two days to do it.

He said, "Dat soon"?

And I really thought the Isles held onto those 80s teams too long. MSG has really hitched their wagon to 1994 and never looked back.....
