A bowl game in Arkansas? MAC, Sun Belt hope so

03:42 PM ET 06.14 | Some complain that with 35 bowl games, college football's postseason is diluted and meaningless. The Sun Belt and MAC disagree, as they're apparently teaming up to sponsor a 36th game, the Rice Bowl in Little Rock.

The bowl, which needs to be approved by the NCAA would be the first in Arkansas since the Shrine Bowl in 1948 and 1949. It would be played in War Memorial Stadium, the Razorbacks' secondary home.

Currently, the MAC only has one bowl tie-in, and the Sun Belt only has two, meaning bowl-eligible several teams often sit home from each. But better teams in those conferences are often filled up to replace larger conferences that can't fill their allotment. With the FBS expanding to 125, there should generally be room for 72 teams to be .500 or better in the regular season.
