10:43 AM ET 06.15 | Jeff Baker, who is hitting .386 with eight homers in 44 at-bats against lefties, suffered the injury before Thursday's game against Toronto when an unnamed teammate gave him what he called an "over-exuberant" high five and bent his thumb back to the wrist. As a result, he can't hold a bat. He's not heading for an MRI or the disabled list -- at least not yet. "It is what it is," said Baker, who declined to name the Serial High Fiver. "He feels terrible about it. We'll deal with it and move on."

beating each other, shows that they are tough!!!

June 15, 2013  11:04 AM ET

the rangers would need to bring as many rookies as they can,,,the team needs more agressive hitters in order to keep up with the big teams in both leagues!!

My money says it was someone that obviously didn't know his own strength. Right Nelson Cruz? (juice me)

High fives are too dangerous. I guess the butt pat is the way to go.

June 15, 2013  11:57 AM ET

So, they celebrate too hard. Maybe they should tone it down a bit. The loss of Kendris Morales was a killer for him. He lost almost two years of his prime. Why? Because he landed too hard on home plate after a walk off HR. Why do that?
The Rangers guy? Because one of his teammates can't find the "sweet spot" for a high five, missed and sprained the guy's thumb. How idiotic is that? It's very idiotic. Tone down the slapping. It's not necessary and looks idiotic. Note also that the Rangers are behind the A's in their playoff race, and will NEED every slugger they have. Getting one injured to a high five is idiotic and comically pitiful. It has nothing to do with a player's toughness either. It's simply a high five that was too hard and missed the mark. Everyone knows you don't high five a thumb. What kind of tool does that?

Maybe the idiotic high fives that miss the mark and are clearly too hard should be toned down. You drive a car, but do you always drive your car as fast as it will go? All the time? Of course you don't. It's called being intelligent and reasonable.

Nonsensical celebrations. Stop already.

Now this is hilarious.

Almost as funny as the time that Tony Gwynn injured his hand by slamming it in his Porsche car door while getting out to go into his bank. Tony's injury is my all-time favorite athlete injury.

When they said slugger, I didn't expect an unheard of player with split stats relied on for justification, but hey, dont mean to nitpick
