Kellen Winslow Jr. signs with Jets

02:22 PM ET 06.15 | The New York Jets added a familiar face to NFL fans when they announced that tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. has signed with the team. Winslow tried out with the Jets earlier this week and his signing makes it clear that he did enough to earn a longer look at the team's upcoming training camp in August. Winslow faces an uphill climb, but the potential has always been there for the former No. 6 overall selection in the 2004 NFL Draft. Winslow never made good on the high selection made on him in the Draft, but he has enjoyed some high notes in his career -- including an 82 catch season in 2007 where he had over 1,000 receiving yards for the only time in his career. He's also enjoyed some low notes, however, as Winslow had just one catch for 12 yards last season with the New England Patriots. Winslow is 29-years-old so he'll likely never become the player the Tampa Bay Buccaneers envisioned when selecting him, but there's probably enough in the tank for the Jets to take a flier on the veteran.

I like it. Last year, he only played in 1 game for NE. If healthy, he should give them 60-65 catches, 700 yards and 5 TD's. I wish Oakland had brought him in on an incentive laden deal.

Nice replacement for Keller.

as well as back-up kicker....

Seriously though, there has been a history of Rex flubbing the roster - is somebody completely separate from Rex evaluating and making these decisions? Besides Woody, I mean.

Poor B/Tard!

The fun never stops when it the Jets.

His knees are gone; the Pats couldn't use him.
Another Sexy Rexy move that will add to the many that will ultimately cost Rex his job.

Just 2 years ago, he managed 75 catches and 764 yards. Doubt he's done.

Oakland gave him a tryout - and did not offer him a contract. So essentially the Jets just signed a guy not good enough for the Raiders.

I know. I wish they had signed him.

He's probably third on the depth chart at QB for the Jets.

He's a TE.
