03:06 PM ET 06.16 | The woman who falsely accused then-prep star linebacker Brian Banks of rape in 2002 has been ordered to pay $2.6 million to the school district of Long Beach Poly High School. Wanetta Gibson sued the district for poor campus security that led to her alleged rape, and received $750,000 of a $1.5 million settlement. Banks spent five years in prison before he was exonerated. The case turned on a meeting between Gibson and Banks in 2011, during which Banks secretly recorded Gibson admitting that she fabricated the allegations. Banks' conviction was overturned on May 24, 2012. Fortunately, Banks' story appears to have a happy ending. He was able to rejuvenate his football career by signing with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League in 2012. Last April, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons, where he will fight for a roster spot at inside linebacker.

Really hope it works out for the kid. He was given a seriously raw deal and he deserves some positivity in his life.

Great news. But, how come she doesn't get prison time?

Great question. This trick should have to do as much time as Banks served.

How many more innocent men are in prison based on lies?

I'll wager it's a fairly large number.

Tons.....What's even worse is the gray area of " statutory rape.I have seen many 16-17 yeard old BOYS, get prosecuted and convicted for having sex with their 15-16 year old girlfriends. In what SANE world do you ruin a kids life like this by making him a registered sex offender?

Agreed. It's a travesty.

The perception of morality should not be used as the sole guideline when determining what does/doesn't constitute a sex crime. Gotta use some common sense, too.

I understand false reporting is a misdemeanor, but what about knowingly taking $750,000 from the High School? There is something there that they can finagle. Throw the OJ on her.... sure, she got away with the main crime - invent a new crime she committed and throw her away on that one.

It is impressive that this kid has kept such a positive and humble outlook during all of this. This girl took his life away from him, and cashed in, yet he doesn't seem to hold a grudge and is eager to move forward in a positive direction. Hopefully everything works out for him.

They may as well have ordered her to pay a gazillion bagillion dollars. They will never see a dime.

So after five years in prison, Banks gets an "Oops, sorry, our bad"? So much for "and justice for all".

Did he get money?

I don't think he can go after anybody besides her, and she is $2.6 million in debt.

They should put her in jail for twice as long as he had to serve. She maliciously and knowingly ruined someones life for no reason. He did the time, she got 2.6 million which I'm sure she blew on junk/nonsense.

Until we start going after these people, they'll continue to do it.

xactly dude, he spent several yrs in prison on false accusations, she should too instead of just paying back money that she didn't deserve to start with along with she will never pay it back

Sad. Sad and sickening.

I wouldn't have a problem with an arrangement like that.
