07:20 AM ET 06.17 | Welcome to Major League Baseball, prized prospect Wil Myers. Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman said they've always maintained that when [Myers] was ready, they'd auger out a spot for him. And that's exactly why Friedman said they called Myers up now, saying he's made the necessary adjustments and will "fit right in" to the Rays team. Myers will play regularly, mostly in rightfield, with Friedman saying he'll "inject" another bat against right-handed pitching. "He's going to play a lot," manager Joe Maddon said. "Of course you don't bring somebody like that up to sit around." There has always been a lot of expectations placed on Myers, last year's minor league player of the year, since he was the key chip in the offseason trade of RHP James Shields.

I am happy about this.

Of course he will, now that June date has passed so this year does not count towards arbitration or free agency. That is the only reason they waited, anything else they say is Bullll!

But he wasn't quite ready before...

Normally I would agree, but he got off to a slow start in the minors this year, while the Rays' outfielders got off to a hot start.

I'm sure the arbitration clock was part of their decision (particularly avoiding Super 2 eligibility), but it would have been hard to justify calling up a scuffling prospect to replace a major leaguer on a tear.

Possibly. But it would have been replacing scuffle with scuffle. I think the year thing is the deciding factor. But you can never prove it.

As a Royals fan (heckles welcome), I hated to see them trade Myers. Such a great talent. Unfortunately they desperately needed pitching and the trade was a sensibile one. I think that Myers will be a perennial All-Star canidate eventually.

Can't say I blame them.Question is, who will lose playing time as a result of this promotion?Kelly Johnson? James Loney? Matt Joyce? Desmond Jennings? Ben Zobrist? Luke Scott?

Luke Scott....... IMHO

I agree. But I guess they decided it was easier to option Ryan Roberts than cut Luke Scott.

His defense was pretty rough - that's one of the things they wanted him to work on. But sure, the arbitration was part of the calculation.

End of the day if he can it the way a lot of scouts think he can - the defense will be something they live with.
