Former 4-star QB Lunt picks Illinois

01:33 PM ET 06.17 | Oklahoma State transfer Wes Lunt has made his decision, choosing to go close to home to play for Illinois.

Draconian transfer restrictions set in place by Mike Gundy prevented Lunt from choosing 37 schools, including several he was reportedly interested in playing for. That left Louisville, who likely have just one more year of Teddy Bridgewater, and the Illini. Although Illinois went just 2-10 in their first season under Tim Beckman, things could turn up with the former 4-star recruit under center.

Lunt, a Rochester, Illinois native, played just one season for the Cowboys. He won the starting job right off the bat, but injuries and poor play -- six touchdowns to seven intereceptions -- ended his time as a starter, and after spring ball, he opted to move on.

The kid said he wanted to be closer to home. He got his wish. Good luck to him in the future. How the Illini can fare so poorly in a talent rich state like Illinois defies logic. I hope Beckman can turn their program around.
