Could Monta Ellis team with Dwight Howard?

01:58 PM ET 06.17 | Monta Ellis was expected to opt out of the final year of his contract. By forgoing $11 million, he'll set himself up for an unrestricted free agency that will probably net him a max contract offer. The potential for Ellis to team with a friend in Dwight Howard is a twist on things, however. ESPN's Chris Broussard reports Ellis will draw interest from the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers. While the Lakers would need to shed salary to add him, all three appear to be potential landing spots for Howard as well. If the Lakers' free agent center can't find a way to team with Clippers guard Chris Paul, who is also a free agent, a Plan B of joining forces with Ellis could be appealing.

Who in God's name is going to give Ellis a max contract? David Kahn and Isiah Thomas aren't GM's anymore

Ellis is doing a Sprewell by not accepting that contract.

The Hawks better not offer this dude anything. Ellis plays for the Hawks, I'm not going for a SINGLE game.

An interesting mix and it might work if the NBA allowed more than one basketball on the court at the same time.
