Caps likely to draft best player available

03:16 PM ET 06.17 | The Washington Capitals have a few needs, but with the No. 23 pick in the NHL Draft they are unlikely to find an immediate contributor so it is more likely that they draft the best player available than draft for need. Washington holds picks in each round, including two in the fifth round, and they could take a few defensemen to try and provide depth for a blue line corps. that could use it, but if the Capitals hope to improve upon this season's first round playoff exit, they are unlikely to do it via the draft. They'll have to hit the free agent market and see if they can work a trade to make it happen.

That's what you hope happens...but it isn't always the case.

This is only true because it's true. Lots of research went into that insightful piece.

<Caps likely to draft best player available>

This is Pulitzer stuff I tell you. The most incredible grasp of the obvious I've ever seen.

Now, hold on a second. It is the Caps we're talking about here. It is just possible that they won't try to get the best player available. ;)

Actually the best athlete available would be best if you don't have ''needs''. Who are they kidding:)

Penn Live is part of the Harrisburg, Patriot news. They have never been known for their overly insightful sports reporting.

OK Phantom............I do watch this stuff you know. I'm still mourning the playoff loss and here you try to rub salt in the wounds. Surprised? No. But I expected more. Who am I kidding.?You're probably right! :-)

...Milbury immediately blasts the notion.

Stupid post. Is Penn Live somehow related to Fansided? There's no way to predict who is going to predict who is going to be picked with the 23rd pick in the NHL draft. And not many people beyond the confines of the Capital Beltway care.

That was the least insightful post I have ever read. I got halfway through it thinking it better pick up quickly, not much left to go. Nope, it ended up being about nothing! If only the Stanley Cup Finals were on, then the interns could offer up ... heyyyy wait a minute ...

It doesn't matter. They're never going to win anything with Ovechkin. He' a floater and a volume scorer who makes his teammates worse.

As I said above they are out of Harrisburg, PA. The reason they care is it affects the Hershey Bears.
