Cuban's offer: Help us pick the team

07:07 AM ET 06.18 | Stop us if you've heard this before: Mark Cuban is thinking out of the box. The Mavericks' big-fish recruiting pitch includes essentially offering an assistant GM job and a squeaky-clean salary-cap picture for next summer. We'll see whether Chris Paul or Dwight Howard bite as they weigh the opportunity in Dallas against other options. ... "In essence, you get to come in and, it's you and we have room for two more max free agents (next year)," [Cuban] said during a Monday appearance on KTCK-AM. "That's why when I talked about a two-year plan, that's the concept there. So part of our sales pitch is, look, we're not going to try to fool you and say that you and Dirk (Nowitzki) and Shawn Marion and Vince (Carter) and fill are basically a championship team."

Wow. Cuban really messed this team up.

Two years from now will be FOUR years from when cubes broke up his championship teamAnd that is *IF* things work out perfectly

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Cuban had it! A Championship team! Its hard to build those. Why in the world would anyone in their right mind tinker with that? You ride that thing until the wheels come off. STUPID.

QUOTE(#7):

Wrong. He gambled, and he lost. But anyone who thinks the Mavs team that won the title was built for a dynasty is a fool. The pieces clicked that season, but had he kept that team intact, it would have been just as likely to get bounced in the first round the following year as win a first-round series. And the chances of a repeat...very remote.

I couldn't disagree more. You are assuming facts not in evidence, extrapolating out a result that had more chance of not happening than happening, but the hard cold irrefutable truth is, while your assessment of my being wrong is all speculation, it can't be disputed that the result of going the opposite direction was an absolute and utter bugled course of action.

I hope the Mavericks DO get Dwight Howard. That means they will NEVER win.

I kind of thought it was...

Kidd proved to be zippo since then and Chandler was asking for big bucks that he is not worth.

Had they paid them both and kept the team, there was no chance of them duplicating what they rode to get there and he would have millions tied up in Chandler.

They got their title and that is better than what most can say. Now he needs to prove he can build it again...

True...no one can dispute if they would have won or not...odds are, with an older Kidd and millions tied up in an over paid Chandler, that his bet would not have paid off and he would be in no position to do much with Chandler eating up cap space.

If he gets the right guys, they can turn the corner quick...especially with the Lakers a mess and the Spurs near the end of their run.

The West could be theirs if he makes the right moves...
