Garden ice under fire

07:26 AM ET 06.18 | Temperatures in Boston spiked early this week into the 80s, and conditions inside the rink suffered. Not surprisingly, the ice was terrible. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara lost an edge and fell in the warm-up and required stitches to close a gash over his eye. The puck was bouncing all over the place, including on a Brad Marchand breakaway that was scuttled because the puck caught a chunk on the ice. "It is pretty bad," [Dennis Seidenberg] said. "When you try to shoot, try to swing your blade on the ice, it feels like sandpaper. It's really rough. When you try to pass, the puck bounces." ... And isn't that nice in the league's marquee event? Just what you want when everyone is watching, defensemen chipping the puck off the boards to get it out of their zone.

And though this is in Boston, imagine what the story would be if the finals were in one of theose...non-traditional" markets. But what do I know, I'm just a northern snob. 9i think that's whaty I was called for having this opinion)

If they can figure out how to do an outdoor game in LA or Las Vegas -- why cant they figure out how to have good ice indoors in Boston.

Its a bit like having the Daytona 500 on a track with pot holes.

Tsk, tsk. The finals should be in Saudi Arabia at the height of summer. (I understand Riyadh is in the running for the 31st franchise. They'll have an arena before Quebec City). The arena "girls" will be camels. It's important to internationalize you know.

And this is the new Boston Garden. The old Garden had the lights go out during the finals, years before the NFL did it.

Tampa, Carolina, Anaheim and L.A. all won the SC and they didn't have nearly this kind of garbage ice. Pathetic and inexcusable. Too cheap to buy the proper equipment or pay the right person to manage it.
