12:05 PM ET 06.18 | Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said that Everett Golson and Eddie Vanderdoes will both miss the 2013 football season because they needed to be held accountable for their actions. Golson was dismissed from school for the semester over academic issues, but plans on returning to the team in time for the 2014 season. Vanderdoes famously signed a letter of intent to play for Notre Dame back in February, but since changed his mind and will play at UCLA. However, since he signed a LOI and Notre Dame refused to release him, he will have to sit out 2013 and will lose that year of eligibility.

I am a Trojan but I respect Brian Kelly for this (the bonus is stickin' it to UCLA!).
Fight on!!

Oh, yes indeed! Mr. Vanderdoes should be SEVERELY admonished for having the audacity to change his mind!

June 18, 2013  02:09 PM ET

I didn't think accountability still existed in college football.

I wasn't aware that having a player sit out a year, as is customary in such cases, is really severely admonishing the young man. Would be interested to see your take if we were talking about a top FSU committ.

73 days til we we start the march. Satan got a waterfall and Kelly takes the moral high ground.

When a coach doesn't end the season with the team he started, shouldn't he sit out a year?

I think we need to switch names. You seem to have a problem with the premise of every article.

Jesus loves every one of you,, but he especially loves the Irish. For when Irish eyes are smiling,, you can not hear a tear,, for when Irish eyes are smiling,,, Van is always nearrrrrrr.....

If you followed these boards, you'd know that this EXACT situation DID happen with an FSU commit., very recently. My position was this: "We should let him go - with NO restrictions - and wish him well. No harm done. Let the kid live his life."

I understand the rule, but NCAA rules stink to high heaven. Archaic junk wrapped in some high-and-mighty code. The rule should be that they're allowed to play somewhere else but not on scholarship.

That is because my eyes ARE open.

Thank you for your opinion.

Yah, not sure why people get so punative over this stuff.

Well, to grasp for perspective, Kelly is HC of ND, a Catholic school, and penance is part of being Catholic.
