Former No. 2 pick trying to shake 'bust' label

07:04 AM ET 06.19 | In some ways, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft has become a sleeper pick. We won't be able to tell if Jason Smith has a realistic shot at the Saints' starting left tackle job until we see him going full speed in full pads in the preseason. But Smith did get another audition with the first-string offense during OTAs last week, and Coach Sean Payton reiterated that the competition is "absolutely" still wide open between front-runner Charles Brown, Smith and rookie Terron Armstead. ... For his first three and a half years with the St. Louis Rams, Smith played under the glare of high expectations and sometimes harsh criticism -- a draft "bust" because of inconsistent performance and a series of concussions.

And lineman picks in the upper rounds are usually the safest bets

I remember this guy being drafted, but I don't remember him going to Baylor, so maybe I am thinking of someone else.

" I understood that my calling is now to suffer, just like Christ did. "

Whoa. Not exactly the same, unless Payton plans on nailing you to a wall if you don't get better.

Side Boob is a perfect example. So many hopes, usually that is all there is, though.

Sort of a Sleeper ? More like Mr. Irrelevant.

Since he never made it with the Rams, I can't see him escaping the 'Bust' label even if he starts for the Saints.
