Worst performance of Hamilton's career

07:19 AM ET 06.19 | Not only did the Angels squander Joe Blanton's Tuesday gem, but they also lost at home to the Mariners. Looking for a main offender? It has to be Josh Hamilton. Hamilton is of course struggling badly in 2013, but Tuesday's performance may have been the worst of his career. Here's his unfortunate line for the night: 0-for-5, 2 Ks, 3 GIDPs, 7 LOB. Sign of a bad game at the plate? When going 0-for-5 with five strikeouts would've constituted an improvement. In fact, Hamilton is just the second player since 1916 (the back end of available data) to go hitless, strike out twice and hit into three double plays in a single game (he joins Jeff King of the 1990 Pirates). As a "bonus," he tied the Angels' franchise record for GIDPs in a game.

Well, some fans in Texas said some awful things and his wife heard them and she had the kids with her and she got scared and told him and he got worried and they are under so much stress now, and....

Wow. That is one stinker of a game.

This is no laughing matter, Robataille.

Everyone on Earth knows that substance abuse is a very serious problem and that a drink (or two, HILLBILLY) is not going to help Josh Hamilton -- to suggest it is just irresponsible.

Serious problems call for serious solutions. Mike Scioscia needs to cut to the heart of the matter and get Hamilton a crack pipe and a heroin IV drip. Stat.

June 19, 2013  10:11 AM ET

Could have been worse. He didn't get hurt, didn't strike out five times (although that would have been one out as opposed to two). Is he sleep walking through these games?

Some people sign their fat new contracts and just get lazy or complacent. The sports world (and the real world for that matter) is littered with the carcasses of players who got their big payday and then suddenly "lost the motivation" to produce at the same high level they had to play at to get their big pay day in the first place.

Just weird though with Hamilton. He didn't seem like the type to me. I thought he was different than all the others. I thought he had some pride. He still may turn it around, but for now, he just blows chunks.

Too bad he was fun to watch last season. That 4 home run game was one for the ages.

Some guys may get complacent but I am sure others start pressing trying to live up to the big contract. Hamilton may be one of them.

You can't sign free agents, especially ones on the wrong side of 30. Develop or trade.

And just think Angels fans, this is the first year of the contract! Enjoy Josh!
