Who will Patriots re-sign?

Posted: Saturday February 09, 2008 09:31AM ET

So which free agents will the Patriots try to retain for next year? Randy Moss is the first free agent that the Patriots will probably aggressively try to keep. No. 2 on the Patriots pecking order is probably Asante Samuel, who teammate Rodney Harrison calls the "best cornerback in the league -- hands down." Considering the Patriots' past with players wanting blockbuster deals, they will probably pass on him. Much of what happens with Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau will depend on their decisions to either keep playing football or retire. Receivers Donte Stallworth ($8 million) and Kelley Washington ($4 million) both have big options due this month that probably won't be paid, so they will become free agents. That should make signing Jabar Gaffney a big priority.

Maybe Asante will surprise us .. but I keep seeing a Deion Branch type of deal..

I dont know about Seau and Bruschi coming back.

Junior Seau and Tedy Bruschi should retier.

They can only take so much of those hits like Brandon Jacobs put on Bruschi in the SB.

Retier on the up. Don't go down with the ship

That petition reads like it was written by a first grader. I guess that's what happens when townies pick up pens instead of picking fights.

The Patcheatiots are destine for an 8-8 season next year.

Then Bilacheats head will explode and Brady will retire with his 12 children by 12 different women and start a commune with Travis Henry in the Rocky Mountains.

The Patcheatiots are destined to be the bottom dwellers of the NFL for years to come.

Seau and Bruschi be old and slow...Asante be goin to the Jets as they be pluckin players off Patritos like Jags used to do to Steelers. Hate to admit it but Pats offense revolve around the lil white boy Welker. Randy Moss may notbe comin back to the Boston area cause crack prices be goin up!

Rarely do I see someone type like they talk so I'm guessing you're some white guy that thinks he's a thug?

Report Offensive Comment

isn't it something that a team just one win away from 'best team ever' is so cheap that it will not now pay to keep its core players together -- ownership wants the glory and fame but does not want to pay for it

Report Offensive Comment

Great stories. The Patriots have free agents and want to resign the better ones. Everyone knew that Stallworth's deal was essentially a 1 year deal and that Seau could retire.

Report Offensive Comment

The defense is old and needs to get better and faster. I wouldn't be surprised if Seau and Bruschi are both gone, both are overrated at this stage in their career. Samuel is very good but they won't pay him, Moss will cost alot but must be kept. Gaffney will cost alot more then people think, its a weak year for FA's and he will get big offers elsewhere.

This pats fan says wait and watch it unfold. The Pats will win 11 or 12 games next year no matter what happens. That means they will be back in the playoffs again. My guess is that once again noone will want to play em. We'll see. The Giants put it to us good though this year and deserve the SB win. Great effort by them.
