07:06 AM ET 06.21 | So far, Pat Shurmur appears to be bullish on Matt Barkley. "He's taken to our training extremely well. A lot of the way we communicate is very different to how he did in college, but he's been to do very nicely here in the first few weeks." Shurmur was asked what specifically they saw in Barkley that made them think his game will translate to the pros. "It doesn't really matter what level you're playing quarterback. Once you have the general skill set necessary you have to be an outstanding decision maker, you have to have a sense of timing and you also have to be an accurate passer. [We] felt like he had all those traits, so now it's just a matter of him learning how we call things, how we function and put all those traits to work."

Philly already knows they're not taking Vick into the season.

June 21, 2013  07:27 AM ET

Maybe Marcus Vick can add some dialogue.

I wish him Well!!!!!

Michael Vick had this to say about Barkley taking over the team : Over my dead body.

The debate is over who will take over when Vick gets hit and goes down for the count.

5-Browns losing
6-Executives, politicians, and lawyers being scumbags
7-Lebron haters
8-People loving jesus and hating gays

Matt will be the Eagles starter soon after Vick and Foles flop and lead them to the playoffs.

June 21, 2013  12:07 PM ET

Joe Montana is now an Eagle rookie. He will be starting the first playoff game, this year. I have been telling you that for months

In some ways, I'd like to see Barkley start this season. Foles is a quality QB, but if we're all about transitioning, and they believe Barkley is the QB if the future, let him take his lumps like the rest of the team will this season, so next year we'll be ready to compete for the NFC East again. No need to put off the inevitable....IF they believe he is their guy for the future.

So...

Coach Sherman is asked specifically about Barkley...
What's he supposed to say "We made a mistake taking this slacker"?

Yup

Look at what Denver, Pats, Packers, Atlanta, Nawlins, Ravens have to spend on their QB position and look at what San Fran and Seattle have to spend on their QB position.

If you can get that rookie to perform you have an extra $10 mil to spread around the rest of the roster for a few years with the new CBA.

Is this really surprising? A year ago he was the odds-on favorite for the Heisman. That didn't happen mainly due to a weak line in front of him and a shoulder injury. Assuming his shoulder is back to full strength he could be the next big rookie QB (Newton, RGIII, Luck...).

June 21, 2013  05:05 PM ET

Good for Barkley, he deserves an opportunity to show his stuff in the NFL.

June 22, 2013  12:05 AM ET

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Maybe he got sick and tired of seeing Oregon beat USC and decided to do things like the Oregon coach, now his coach at Philadelphia.

And that's what they've said about just about every USC qb that's been drafted over the last 25 years. Exactly ZERO have been the next big rookie...

I just saw an ad for the Michael Vick dog grooming and walking service.
