Michigan's hottest recruiting cycle ever?

07:24 AM ET 06.21 | In terms of recruiting, business is brisk these days for the Wolverines. Michigan's coaching staff is racking up verbal commitments at a rate -- in terms of speed and quality -- almost never seen before in Ann Arbor. Still, the coaches value the Wolverine Technique School summer camp. Though it has mostly served as a preview of the 2015 and 2016 recruiting groups, Brady Hoke's staff returned the event to the seniors Tuesday. Two 2014 prospects earned offers from Michigan at the camp: Elkton (Md.) Eastern Christian Academy teammates Freddy Canteen and Brandon Watson. But for Michigan's numbers on offensive line in the 2014 class, a third senior from ECA, Jamie Hess, might have picked one up as well.

The angry weasels must have gotten a copy of the SEC Cheaters handbook and /or got better bagmen.

Yup. I knew that once Urb took that job in Columbus that The Handbook's influence would quickly spread around the B1G.

Yes, his attempts to piss up a rope were quite amusing for fans of "The Leaders AND The Best".

+1...and the whole state of Texas hasn't been too damn swift lately...and not only in football. I'm not just throwing rocks since I'm a Texan.

Two examples.

Texas had zero teams in March Madness this year. Zero, zilch, nada, none.

And a small state like North Carolina has two teams in the CWS and Texas again has none. Zero, zilch, nada, none.

Truly pathetic for a state this large and one that sinks significant $$$ into such. JMO.

John Wooden (remember him?) said that you should never measure your success by comparing your results with the results of another guy. You should only evaluate your performance against what you are truly capable of achieving. If you have done your very best, then you were successful. We all love to keep score, but we should be wise enough by now (some more than others) to know how close many athletic constests are today. Don't let wins/losses or tournament appearances be your criteria. Just do your best and be happy.

Back to the article, there seems to be a growing suggestion that Michigan did not recruit well during the Rich Rod years. I went back and checked their team recruiting rankings by Rivals to see if I was remembering incorrectly. Most of the classes were in the 8 - 12 range, with only one or two at 20. Those occurred during the coaching changes from Carr to Rodriguez and from Rodriguez to Hoke. Michigan has always recruited well. This year seems a little better than most at the moment. But it's not like they were doing bad before this year.

What do you mean "remember him?" Saying we are old?

While I agree somewhat, we (college athletic in Texas) still suck lately...at least in the major sports.

That said, you are right about the close contest today. I'm convinced you could take the same teams in March Madness and the baseball, play it over again and end up with nearly all completely different teams playing in the final four and CWS.
