Rich Rodriguez thinks huddling, substitution breaks are a waste of time

12:40 PM ET 06.21 | Earlier this week, Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema proposed a rule allowing a 15 second pause after first downs which would allow defenses to substitute tired players and improve safety. It's clearly a ploy to slow down spread offenses, and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez is calling it as such. "If you're in shape, you still have time to substitute. With all these timeouts and stoppages for play. You have three-minute timeouts in every quarter for TV. I don't see that at all. Some basketball teams play up-tempo and fast break all the time, they don't talk about that being an issue." He then went on to call huddles, "the biggest waste of time in football."

Nick was just voicing his (unstated) fear of playing against Oregon last year.

He also feels defense is a necessary evil.

According to the Buckeye fans, he was a great coach!(i'm glad it's Friday)

Since Buckeye fans generally dismiss the Cooper years when talking about "The Game", as if those years never existed . . . Michigan fans do so in-kind with regard to RichRod.

That seems fair. Does that mean I can pretend that "The Chris Rix Years" never happened at FSU? PLEASE?!

RichRod is right in this case. Coaches like Nick and Bielema just don't want to deal with a hurry up offense. I agree with Rich, when he said, regarding safety concerns. "If you're in shape, you still have time to substitute. With all these timeouts and stoppages for play. You have three-minute timeouts in every quarter for TV. I don't see that at all. Some basketball teams play up-tempo and fast break all the time"!!!!

Gumps gonna be mad being they take everything to heart..RichRod better shut his twitter down

RichRod is a pretty big dude, I don't think he fears "anyone", especially the little guy (Saban)!!! IMO, the bottom line is that, "some" of the coaches in the SEC, fear the hurry-up offense!!!

Good point, but Nick never had the chance to play Oregon last year, as "if" (big word) Oregon would have beaten Stanford in OT, Nick would have never played in the NCG. Don't forget that both Bama and Oregon had one loss and Bama still got the chance to go to the NCG.
