10:37 AM ET 06.23 | Fletcher Mackel of WDSU TV in New Orleans reports via Twitter that the Pelicans may acquire the Mavericks' 13th overall draft pick, use it to select Giannis Adetokunbo, give the Mavs a future pick and agree to take Shawn Marion and his $9 million remaining contract off the Mavs' hands.

LOL, why would the Pelicans want this trade and more important, why would David Sterns allow this trade???

And what's gonna happen when Mr. Marion decides he would rather retire than report to a team called "The Pelicans"?

Then the Pelicans still get the Mavs first round pick and buy Marion out of his contract.

They wouldn't have to buy him out - since he's retiring...

Not the best deal for Cuban - but as Em Em states, the $$$ would be off the cap.

I think buy-outs need to go. It's not right for player to be paid for doing nothing and be given an opportunity to sign with another team. It would be better if players receiving a buyout were made ineligible for playing during the current season.

When I read this title of the thread, I had to wrack my brain trying to remember wtf the Pelicans were. What a dumb name change.

I agree. I dislike how players get traded and don't want to play for the other team. They want to be bought out and go to another team.

It would be nice if it was in the CBA that if a player gets bought out because he doesn't want to play for the team he was traded to. Then that player has to sit out the rest of the season. But that will never happen.

Look, if Mark Cuban is into "giving away" players like Marion, the Pistons, the Knicks and other franchises may just come calling. The only way I see this is if Dwight Howard is really in play for the Mavs.
