Kawhi Leonard's knee could keep him from USA basketball camp

08:32 AM ET 06.24 | Kawhi Leonard has the makings of a star and many believe that he could blossom in to the future face of the San Antonio Spurs when their current group of veteran leaders moves on, so it should come as no surprise that the team is looking to protect Leonard and do everything they can to make sure he spends the offseason fully recovering from a knee injury that was nagging all season long. Leonard missed 24 games last season with "jumper's knee" in his left knee and now the soreness could keep him from participating in a July basketball camp for Team USA. The 21-year-old was one of just 27 players invited to attend the camp, as Team USA looks to assemble their roster for the 2014 FIBA World Cup tournament in Spain. Unfortunately for Leonard, he may not get that chance because Spurs coach Gregg Popovich wants the young star to rest and meet with the team's medical staff before making any decisions to move forward.

You're young. You still have many more years to represent your country. Get your knee fix and rest up...

He is the future of the Spurs so there is no sense in pushing it. A full regular season and playoffs will wear down most players.

This is not good. He is already having trouble with his knees.

The truth is, Spurs will never be champions with Pop calling the shots. He simply can't coach this game anymore, he needs to retire.

The bad thing is it took him losing the finals for the media to finally call him out.

However there will still be people out there saying but he is a 4 time champion, yes he was on the team when we won, but we didn't win because of him. TD is a 4 time champion, Pop was just along for the ride.

The Spurs lost the finals because Pop thought it would be cute to let the MVP shoot wide open jumpers and to cut Jax before the playoffs. In the end, we could have used him in the rotation instead of wearing down the starters because it was clear the finals is nowhere to be playing YMCA players like Bonner and Splitter when the Heat went to small ball. Now he has ruin the last 7 years of TD's career and counting...

Exactly. He made so many dumb decisions, but you will still find people giving him a pass. Not me. I realized 3 years ago he was done as a coach when he started Bonner at one time, then traded RJ for Bowen, and passed on Scola and JR Smith when the Spurs needed a dynamic scoring that they could afford.

All Pop wanted was a team that was easy to boss around with his dumb ideas. But it takes a new kinda fool to think that Tiago Spitter can guard Dwade. Even if Dwade had two bad knees and broken toes, Spitter still couldn't guard him.

I still can't get over the fact that his game plan was to let Dwade and Lebron take wide open jumpers in their own gym. Wow!

Funny how Ghostown bring up many excuses that he never used before. Didn't Ghostown say that his Heat team will beat the Spurs because his team has Lebron and is more talented?

KL is a beast and the Spurs can get back to the Finals. With the experience from playing the Heat and the success that they had, I can see the Spurs returning...

Very bright future!
